Scrivener's Bookshop

If any one ever goes to Buxton then this book shops is a massive, glittery, book lovers gem, and not many people know about it.
It's literally an Aladdin's cave of amazing Victorian books and cheap second hand paperbacks.
They bind books on the first floor where the shop entrance is; even that area is floor to ceiling with books.
When I first went in there it was a dream come true, I didn't know where to start, a few floors up is a small tea and coffee area and seats where if you put a few pennies in the jar you can browse and have a drink.
There's an amazing floor of poetry and drama as well as shelves of sheet music and an old fashioned pipe organ above that is an attic full foreign textbooks and OS maps, plus a cheeky section round a hidden corner. There's a section on almost every subject, but for me the best bit is the paper back fiction section, there's loads of old Penguins and if you look hard enough some Folio books.
Anyway Scrivener's is da bomb, I'd go to Buxton just to go there.
I hope it stays open forever and ever.

Tracy Nakayama

There isn't much on the internet about Tracy Nakayama, I found her in a book called "Revisionaries, a decade of art in Tokion", which is a brilliant book.
I like the way she paints, the first work of hers that I saw was called "Valerie", of a beautiful girl with her palms together, I might scan it in.

Animations

I literally can't stop watching them.
We had a guest speaker in Uni today that mentioned working for StudioAKA, so I looked them up.
They do the Bupa advert and the Lloyds TSB ones, as well and less mainstream stuff.
This is one I found from scouring the website, it is so good and so shocking, I must have watched it 6 times now.

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test

The book I'm reading at the moment, by Tom Wolfe. It's all about Ken Kesey (author of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) and the group of people who flocked around him called The Merry Pranksters.
It documents their use of LSD and psychedelic drugs in the days when it was legal, and the amazing revelations and adventures they had during this. From what I can tell Tom Wolfe had some first hand experience with the Pranksters. There are some awesome references in this book too, Alan Ginsberg makes a few appearances and The Grateful Dead play at many of the Acid Tests
It's so good to read a book with some relation to what really happened in the Hippie days. It also talks about acid in a normal way, without forcing horror stories down your throat.
I haven't finished it yet, but if you're interested in the 60's then I think you should read it one day.
Apparently someone is making it into a film, it should be good, as long as they don't shit all over it.
Let's see if it becomes really well known and popular once
that happens, unfortunately I think it will do.

Draw the Line

I went to Django's Riff for the first time last night for 'Draw the Line'
draw the line
It's a social drawing night that is held at many bars and cafe's in Liverpool, all detailed on the website.
Last night was mainly aimed at drawing on provided bar mats, anything we wanted, and the beer mats will be put up in a gallery soon :) so we did.
The tables have paper on them so you can draw away on that too and if you have the balls you can draw something on board on the walls.
The drinks at Django's were quite expensive but there was a really good atmosphere and a dj playing ok music, a lot of Nas.
Look on the Gallery on the website, there's some really amazing stuff and I took some photo's so when they're developed I'll whack them up.

We Feel Fine

I was shown this website today at uni.
It is so good, it collects quotes from people who are expressing how they feel and displays it in a beautiful and original way.GO ON IT
WE FEEL FINE

If you click on 'open we feel fine' and wait for it to load you will see what I mean.
It can also show images that these people have uploaded that go along with what they are feeling.
There are other ways the view the information and make it more specific, I just spent ages messing on it.
